Both the Ab Lounge and the Ab Lounge 2 have been marketed via infomercials on television, but little has been said about the difference between the two. The success of the Ab Lounge prompted the release of the Ab Lounge 2, with slightly different features and size, but still with the same Ab Lounge philosophy, to help users get lean, defined abdominal muscles without having to get down on the floor to do tiresome crunches.
Purpose
The Ab Lounge and the Ab Lounge 2 have the same purpose. They are machines made for exercising your abdominal muscles. This is done with the same basic exercise; you sit in the Ab Lounge or Ab Lounge 2, insert your hands into the straps and bend forward and back. Both the Ab Lounge and the Ab Lounge 2 allow you to create a "jackknife" motion, where your back can extend backward. The manufacturers of the Ab Lounge and Ab Lounge 2 claim this is why the machines are so effective.
Price
The Ab Lounge was released with a fairly high price tag of $214, as of 2009, according to the manufacturer's website. The Ab Lounge 2 was made to be a more affordable option for Ab Lounge users, costing only $99 as of 2009. Both offer easy payment plans when purchased directly from the manufacturer or from the infomercial, as they are still in production. Both models offer free shipping.
Features
Bot the Ab Lounge and the Ab Lounge 2 come with fitness videos that you can use along with your Ab Lounge system for better results. However, only the third model in the series, the Ab Lounge XL System with Professional Package, comes with additional features like a fitness and nutrition CD-ROM and resistance bands.
Size
The Ab Lounge 2 is slightly smaller than the Ab Lounge, a common complaint for some Ab Lounge users on Epinions.com. The Ab Lounge is 54 inches by 31 3/4 inches by 45 1/2 inches, and it can hold someone who is up to 275 lb. The Ab Lounge 2 is 39 1/2 inches by 30 inches by 44 1/2 inches, quite a bit shorter, and holds someone up to 250 lb. Those who have taller frames may want to choose the Ab Lounge to accommodate their size.
Warranty
Both models of the Ab Lounge offer a 3-month warranty. If you don't like the Ab Lounge or Ab Lounge 2, or something on the machine malfunctions, you can send it back to manufacturer, Fitness Quest, for a refund or replacement.
