The 9-day chicken, rice and apple diet is a quick weight loss plan, or fad diet. This diet limits you to just the three foods mentioned in the name. The chicken, rice and apple diet is not nutritionally balanced. It includes no dairy products and no carbohydrates after the first three days. Although some variations include vegetables, the diet excludes either vegetables or fruits entirely, so you will lack some nutrients.

Description

The plan of the chicken, rice and apple diet is very simple. You eat only one food each day for three days, and then switch to the next food on the list. There are multiple versions of the diet that include small amounts of honey each day and switch vegetables for the apples. You may not mix the foods, meaning you can't have more than one kind on the same day. You can drink water or black coffee, but with no milk or sugar. No alcohol is allowed while you are on the diet.

Claims

Proponents say you can lose up to 20 lbs. in nine days on the chicken, rice and apple diet. The rice is supposed to help you cleanse your body of toxins. The chicken provides protein while your body burns fat and the apples or vegetables replace vitamins and minerals. You are supposed to drink plenty of water each day.

Meal Plan

For the fist three days of the diet you may eat only boiled rice. One version of the diet also allows you 3 tbsp. of honey each day. Starting on the fourth day you switch to chicken, which may be boiled, grilled or baked in an oven. However, no oil or added ingredients are permitted. During the last three days you eat only apples, which may be boiled, baked or eaten raw. Again, another version specifies vegetables instead of apples. Vegetables may be steamed, cooked in water or eaten as salad. Consume mostly green and white vegetables such as cabbage and onions, although other vegetables are allowed.

Considerations

It's unlikely you will see a 20 lb. weight loss on the chicken rice and apple 9-day diet. You have to use 3,500 calories more than you take in to lose 1 lb. which is more than most people use each day. Because this diet does reduce calories, you may lose some fat. Most weight loss is likely to be water weight that will return as soon as you go off of the diet. MayoClinic.com advises to concentrate instead on a balanced diet that provides adequate nutrition and aim for a weight loss of 1 to 2 lbs. per weak for long-term weight loss. Quick weight loss may be helpful to start you off, but should be followed by a transition to a long-term weight reduction program.
