Calli Tea is a blend of herbs formulated by Tei-Fu Chen, M.D., of Sunrider International. The primary ingredient in Calli Tea is derived from the camellia sinensis plant; however, additional herbs are incorporated into the mix to create a unique tea blend with a vast array of health benefits. Calli Tea is available in four varieties: regular, mint, cinnamon and a special "night" blend. Consult with your medical advisor prior to consuming Calli Tea.
Medicinal Ingredients
Calli Tea contains camellia sinensis, lemon herbal extract, chrysanthemum flower, jasmine extract and lalang grass. According to Richard M. Blackstock, Ph.D., lemon herbal extracts contain antiviral and antibacterial properties, chrysanthemum flower alleviates symptoms of allergy or sinus congestion, jasmine extract treats fever, mosquito bites and inflammation and lalang grass remedies heart, lungs, urinary bladder and stomach problems. Calli Tea's primary ingredient, camellia sinensis, provides antioxidant support against toxic free radicals.
Antioxidant
Camellia sinensis contains antioxidant polyphenol chemicals known as catechins. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, the antioxidants found within the camellia sinensis plant absorb harmful free radicals, which are compounds that induce cellular alterations and tamper with DNA. Free radicals occur naturally within the body, but they may also arise due to environmental toxins, such as smoking or air pollution. Consumption of antioxidant-rich Calli Tea may detoxify the body of free radicals and improve overall health.
Additional Benefits
Calli Cinnamon Tea contains cinnamon, which may improve digestive health and stabilize blood-glucose levels. Maria Collazo-Clavell, M.D., of Mayo Clinic, reports that cinnamon may be especially beneficial to individuals suffering from type 2 diabetes. Collazo-Clavell references a 2009 study in which participants exhibited improved hemoglobin A1C levels upon consumption of cinnamon twice daily during a 90-day period. However, further research is necessary to validate these claims. Calli Mint Tea contains peppermint leaf, which may be utilized to treat respiratory or sinus infections, inflammation and symptoms of a cold or cough, according to MedlinePlus. Another variation of the Calli Tea product line is the Calli Night Tea, which contains ingredients such as passionflower, jujube seed, poria, ho shou wu, sage root, rose hip, winter melon seed and imperate root. These ingredients work in conjunction to calm the mind and alleviate stress.
Preparation
Sunrider International recommends steeping one teabag per 15 oz. of water as the ingredients in Calli Tea are very concentrated. Hot water is preferable over boiling water as the higher temperature in boiling water may destroy the tea's healthful enzymes. While the tea contains no added sweeteners or chemicals, it may be sweetened naturally with honey or your sweetener of choice.
