While backcountry riders prefer to set their bindings farther back on the board, beginners are recommended to use the center mounting holes on the snowboard deck. According to the snowboarding experts at REI, a centered snowboarding stance offers increased balance and board control. A centered snowboard stance is ideal for beginners, as it allows you to adapt to numerous types of riding terrains. Most snowboarders have a personal preference regarding the exact angle of the bindings. Perform a basic fitting test to ensure a comfortable riding stance.

Step 1

Lower the underside of your snowboard onto a carpeted floor to prevent minor scrapes and dings. Choose the binding that corresponds with your lead foot and place it onto the front end of the snowboard. Remove the circular base plate from the foot bed of the binding.

Step 2

Align the binding over the center-most mounting holes of the snowboard deck. Rotate the binding to angle the position of your lead foot. Lower the base plate back into the foot bed.

Step 3

Slide four binding screws through the top of the base plate and into the center mounting holes. Tighten the screws with a Phillips screwdriver to secure the binding in place. Lower your lead foot into the binding to test the position.

Step 4

Loosen the mounting screws to make any necessary adjustments. Place the second binding over the mounting holes at the rear of the snowboard. Remove the base plate from the foot bed.

Step 5

Align the back binding over the center-most mounting holes to initiate the installation process. Rotate the binding if necessary to ensure a comfortable riding stance. Lower the base plate into the foot bed and tighten the binding screws.
