Pasta and pizza lovers will enjoy the palatable combination of spaghetti, egg noodles and the ingredients that typically represent pizza flavors. Egg noodles generally cook very quickly with the addition of heat and liquid, leaving no need to prebake or precook them.

Nutritional Information

A pizza casserole composed of egg noodles, lean ground beef, onion, garlic, green bell pepper, pepperoni sausage, pizza sauce, milk, and mozzarella cheese holds 382 calories, 25.2 g of fat, 79 mg of cholesterol, 902 mg of sodium, 16.5 g of carbohydrates, 2.7 g of fiber and 20.1 g of protein.

Variations

Pizza casseroles usually include pepperoni and sometimes ground beef. Common additions are mushrooms and yellow, red or green bell peppers. Different types of pasta, such as egg noodles, rotini, spaghetti or a combination, can be used. Tomato-based sauces are a necessity for the flavor of this casserole. A pasta or pizza sauce of your choice can be added. Italian seasoning, garlic, onion and mozzarella cheese are important components that provide the pizza-like taste to this interesting dish.

Healthy Ingredients

Throw in mushrooms, bell peppers, fresh or canned tomatoes, onions and garlic. Low-sodium and low-fat pizza or pasta sauce will be just as tasty as their counterparts. Whole grain noodles will add healthy fiber to your dish. Look for extra lean ground beef to add to your casserole instead of regular ground beef, the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute suggests. To cut down on fat, use skim milk and light cheese in your casserole.

Directions and Preparation

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Fill a pot with salted water and let boil, recommends chef Anthony Sedlak, host of The Main. Add spaghetti noodles to a pot and cook until al dente. Using a frying pan, cook ground beef until evenly browned. Add spices, and fresh onion and garlic if desired. Pull out a baking dish and add the beef, sauce, spaghetti, egg noodles and vegetables. Place shredded cheese over the top of all the ingredients and place in the oven to bake for around 30 minutes or until slightly browned.
