If you happen to put on some extra pounds, it is likely that some of it is going to end up on your face. Some people even tend to carry extra weight on their face first, before it appears on other body parts. While it isn't possible to pick and choose the areas of your body from which to remove fat, you can slim down your face by losing overall fat and toning your face muscles for a more defined look.
Resistance Exercise
Resistance training refers to lifting weights such as dumbbells, barbells, resistance bands or your own body weight. This type of exercise builds lean muscle mass, which requires more energy to maintain than fat. More lean muscle mass on your body equals a faster metabolism, which means fat will begin to disappear from all areas of your body, including your face. Aim for two sessions of resistance exercise per week, says the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Aerobic Exercise
Aerobic exercise such as cycling, swimming, running or even brisk walking is a common way to shed excess pounds from all over your body. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advises 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise every week, or 75 minutes of high-intensity activity to reach weight-loss goals. Moderate activity may be brisk walking or a leisurely bike ride, while intense activity is running, hard cycling or swimming.
Facial Exercises
Toning the muscles of your face with specific facial exercises will help give you the appearance of a leaner face. Gently tap your cheeks and forehead with your hands to increase blood circulation. Open your mouth as wide as you can and close your mouth tight. Purse your lips and move them from side to side, toward each ear. Hold the heel of your hand under your chin and provide resistance as you open and close your mouth. Place your index fingers above your eyebrows and provide resistance as you close your eyes. Perform facial exercises for a set number of repetitions or for 30 seconds each.
Other Considerations
While the way you move your body is a big factor in losing weight from your face, so is what you put in your mouth every day. Cut down on junk food and fast food and increase the amount of water you drink. Include foods like fresh fruit and vegetables and lean meats and dairy products. Also, eat smaller portions as a way to cut calories from your daily total.
