While some boarders prefer to ride on off-piste terrain, others opt for the groomed runs of a snowboarding resort. Ski and snowboard mountains are typically equipped with chair lifts that can quickly transport you to the top of the slope. Entering a chair lift incorrectly can result in collisions with other riders as well as painful falls. You'll need to remove one of your feet from the snowboard to avoid losing balance. The ABC-of-Snowboarding website recommends using a skating technique when entering the lift.
Step 1
Loosen the safety straps of the snowboard binding that secures your dominant foot. Remove your boot from the binding and place it onto the ground. Push off the snow with your dominant foot to propel your snowboard forward.
Step 2
Navigate your way to the back of the chair-lift line. Stand with your knees bent to avoid losing balance. Push your snowboard forward as the line continues to move.
Step 3
Show your lift ticket to the attendant as you reach the front of the line. Step forward as the attendant gives you the signal. Align your snowboard behind the red safety line while awaiting the chair lift.
Step 4
Look over your shoulder to watch the chair lift approach. Sit onto the chair lift as it moves forward while grabbing the railing for support. Pull down the horizontal safety bar to avoid falling off the lift as it progresses up the mountain.
