Soccer is a popular sport for kids, youth and adults. If you or your child have signed up to play soccer on an organized team, you will be given a uniform that consists of shorts, a jersey or shirt and matching socks. Each shirt is numbered on the back to identify the player. You will need to purchase a few other items to complete your uniform. Some coaches also require you to have your own soccer ball.
Directions
Step 1
Pull on your soccer shorts and ensure that they are roomy and comfortable. You may wear compression shorts under the soccer shorts for more support. They should be the same length or shorter than your soccer shorts. Goalies may wear long goalie pants.
Step 2
Slip the soccer jersey shirt on over your head. Tuck the shirt into your shorts. Referees require the shirt to be tucked into the shorts.
Step 3
Pull the shin guards on over your shins and secure in place using the velcro closures. One strap is at the top of the shin guard and goes behind and just below your knee. There may be an elastic strap that goes under the arch of your foot to keep the shin guard in place.
Step 4
Pull on the soccer socks over your shin guards. The socks should cover the shin guards completely. If there is room at the top, you may fold them over. Socks should hit just below the kneecap.
Step 5
Slip your feet into the soccer shoes, adjust the tongue and lace them to a comfortable fit. Some players wait until they arrive at the field to put on their soccer cleats.
Step 6
If you have long hair, use an elastic to pull it up in a ponytail and out of the way.
Tips and Warnings
- If you are the goalie, wear gloves while playing and a different-colored shirt than your team or the opposing team. During cold weather, long sleeves are sometimes worn under the team shirt. Shin guards come in various types and models, choose one that you prefer.
