5 Things You Need to Know About Toning Arms With Pilates

1. Ways to Tone Your Arms

Aids and props like the rubber exercise band, small hand weights and Joseph Pilates magic circle help tone the arms in Pilates exercises. Remember your Pilates mat and a large towel or a blanket. By pulling, squeezing, stretching and resisting these pieces of equipment, your arms can show an improvement in 30 days.

2. Rubber Pilates Exercise Band Pull

For this exercise, sit on your mat and stretch your legs out in front of you. Bend your knees slightly, and flex your feet up. Wrap the exercise band around the arches of your feet, and cross it over your ankles. Wrap the band around your hands as needed for tension. Sit up tall and straight with your head held up tall but looking straight in front of you. Pull the band back, stretching it back so it forms a V shape, with the point of the V at your feet. Concentrate on your breathing. Exhale when you pull it back. Inhale as you release. Repeat five times.

3. Concentrate on Your Breathing and Pull Up on Band

Take the exercise band and lay it long ways on your exercise mat with more length behind than in front. Sit in the middle of your mat on top of the exercise band with your legs crossed. Reach back with your right arm and grab the band. Wrap it around your hand as needed for tension. Breathe in and concentrate on your breathing. Pull the exercise band over your head straight up toward the ceiling. Exhale as you stretch. Bring your arm back down as you inhale. Repeat five times with each arm.

4. Small Weights Help Tone the Arms

Use two small hand-held weights for this exercise. Lie down flat on your mat, and bring your knees toward the chest. Raise your legs toward the ceiling at a right angle to floor. Adjust your legs to be at a 45-degree angle. Pull your head up, keeping your belly button pushed inward toward the mat. Lift your arms just enough to make them parallel to the floor. Now breathe in and out in sets of five, all the while keeping your arms basically parallel to the floor while moving your arms up and down rapidly.

5. Use the Magic Circle

The magic circle, also known as the fitness circle, the ring or the exercise ring, is one of Joseph Pilates own inventions. It acts as a resistance tool for toning the arms. Stand tall and straight and lean forward slightly. Hold the magic circle straight out in front of you and squeeze. Exhale as you squeeze, and inhale as you release. Repeat this five times, and tone your arms Joseph Pilates style.
