Savory turkey meatballs are a meaty, flavorful treat. You can also make them a healthy meal if you use lean ground turkey and dry whole-wheat breadcrumbs to prepare them. Use your preferred blend of herbs and spices to season the meatballs and they will be every bit as flavorful without the fat. Typically, you would bake your meatballs in the conventional oven, but if you are looking for a fast weeknight dinner, you can microwave your meatballs instead. From start to finish, you only need 30 minutes to prepare tender microwaved turkey meatballs.
Step 1
Mix 1 lb. lean ground turkey with 2 crumbled slices of whole-wheat bread, 1/2 cup finely chopped onion, 1 egg, 1/4 cup milk and 1/4 cup tomato sauce in a large bowl. Mix the ingredients with your hands until they are well integrated.
Step 2
Add in your preferred seasonings, such as 1 tbsp. oregano, 1 tbsp. basil, 1 tbsp. garlic powder, 1 tbsp. sage and salt and pepper to taste. Mix the ingredients until they are integrated.
Step 3
Form the meat mixture into 1 1/2-inch meatballs and place them in a single layer in a casserole dish. Cover the casserole dish with plastic wrap to prevent the meatballs from drying out.
Step 4
Cook the meatballs on high for eight minutes. After eight minutes, take them out of the microwave and turn them. Recover the meatballs and cook them for an additional eight minutes.
Step 5
Take the meatballs out of the microwave and insert an instant-read meat thermometer into a meatball. The meatballs are ready when they register 160 degrees Fahrenheit.
Step 6
Serve the meatballs hot.
