A juice fast is a method of dieting in which you substitute solid proteins, carbohydrates and fats with liquid juice which provides fructose sugars and vitamins. Juices provide energy and nourishment while reducing your calorie intake, allowing your system to cleanse itself and your body to lose weight. A juice fast can last as long as a few weeks although there are some fasts that take only three days. Whatever the length of your juice fast, it is important that you do not shift abruptly between solid foods and juices. Always consult your medical professional before beginning any diet.
Step 1
Avoid nicotine, caffeine and alcohol. A week before you start your fast, remove any animal products that are difficult to digest from your meals. Eat only raw fruits and vegetables as early as two days before the fast.
Step 2
Buy a juicer that is easy to clean and capable of squeezing hard vegetables. Buy fruits and vegetables that can easily be juiced. Do not buy high-fiber fruits such as bananas, papayas, peaches, apricots and avocados. Fruits and vegetables that work well for a juice fast include apples, oranges, tangerines, watermelon, celery, carrots and spinach.
Step 3
Eat less solid foods gradually on the first week of the fast while increasing your juice intake.
Step 4
Drink 8 to 12 glasses of juiced fruits and vegetables every day. Be sure to get at least 1200 calories from juice each day. Spread these throughout the day, and drink a lot of water throughout the fast.
Step 5
Use a natural laxative or an enema on days you don't have bowel movements.
Step 6
Break the juice fast slowly with raw fruits. Introduce carbohydrates and fat over the next two days and bring in proteins by the end of the week.
