Nutrisystem Flex Plan is a nutritional program that claims to help you lose weight. This program requires you to eat meals low on the glycemic index, five to six times a day. Nutrisystem believes this type of diet ensures a more stable metabolism that supports the burning of calories. As with any diet plan, you should speak with a medical professional before starting the Nutrisystem Flex Plan.
The Nutrisystem Flex Plan
The Nutrisystem Flex Plan requires you to consume Nutrisystem meals for five days each week and then allows you to take two days off, where you do not have to follow the diet plan. However, Nutrisystem warns that you must maintain moderation during those two days. Nutrisystem also provides you with a meal planner, outlining meal options for your free days, following the principles of low-calorie, low-carbohydrate and high-protein meals that are glycemic friendly. Nutrisystem provides prepackaged, prepared meals for the other five days.
A Typical Nutrisystem Day
A typical Nutrisystem day would allow you to eat French toast made with a slightly whole-grain sweet bread with spices, 8 oz. of fat-free milk and strawberries for breakfast. A typical lunch menu includes diced chicken, onions and cheese with Mexican spices in a crispy flour tortilla, bell peppers and a fat-free dressing. A sample Nutrisystem dinner menu includes a whole-wheat wrap of diced and shredded chicken with buffalo seasonings and a side salad with dressing.
Snacks and Desserts
The Nutrisystem program also includes desserts and snacks. Nutrisystem offers a variety of options including ice cream, cheese, yogurt and fruits. For example, one dessert option is a fudge swirl sundae that contains vanilla ice cream with chocolate fudge. Another sample dessert is a fat-free vanilla ice cream sandwiched between two chocolate wafers. A sample snack is a low-fat cheese stick served with grapes. Additional snacks include light yogurt and blueberries, crisped corn puffs with cheddar cheese and a hard-boiled egg with an apple.
Foods in the Flex Plan
Two days per week the Nutrisystem Flex Plan allows you to eat non-Nutrisystem foods. Nutrisystem provides you with a meal programmer that offers an outline of meals and specific suggestions for portion sizes and choices. This guide also offers you information about dining out and more than 80 complete recipes you can use to prepare your own foods. Recommended foods during the two-day flex period include lean proteins and carbohydrates low on the glycemic index.
