How to Use Nutmeg for Diarrhea

Nutmeg is the nut of the fruit from the tree Myrsiticafragans. It features prominently in Chinese and Indian traditional medicine. Nutmeg is used as a whole nut, ground into powder and expressed for oil. It is a potent aromatic spice containing myristicin, elincin, safrole, camphene, geraniol as well as protein, starch, potassium and calcium. To treat diarrhea, nutmeg can be taken as ground powder, oil or in a decoction. However, take care not to exceed started doses as nutmeg is toxic in high doses due to the hallucinogenic properties of myrisiticin. Use caution when taking herbs or herbal supplements.

Step 1

Dissolve three pinches of ground nutmeg in a glass of warm milk. Sip the drink slowly.

Step 2

Place three drops of nutmeg oil on a cube of sugar or in 1 tsp. honey. Wait for the oil to mix with the sugar or honey before taking it.

Step 3

Make a decoction with 5 g nutmeg powder, 2 g ginger, 3 g licorice, 5 g wuweizi, 5 g wuzhuyu and 10 g bug uzhi in 600 ml water. Divide the decoction into three equal doses and take for three days.

Step 4

Take 200 mg capsule of nutmeg extracts once or twice daily until the diarrhea subsides.
