Your pitch speed is one of many components that make you an effective pitcher. You do not have to be a math genius to estimate how fast you pitch without a radar gun. Recall a few elementary math equations to convert feet per second to miles per hour and you can accurately estimate your pitch speed.
Step 1
Measure your distance in feet from the catcher's glove to the pitching mound and record the result on paper. Once you reach high school, the pitching distance is 60 feet and 6 inches, or 60.5 feet.
Step 2
Ask a teammate to use a stopwatch to determine the time it take for the ball to leave your hand and reach the catcher's glove. Write down the time in seconds. Perform five pitches and average the time in seconds. Write it down.
Step 3
Divide the distance by seconds to determine your feet-per-second pitch speed. According to CalculateMe.com, divide your feet per second by 0.681818181818182 to determine your pitch speed in miles per hour.
