A properly fitting snowboard jacket will keep you protected from frigid winds and blowing ice crystals. Snowboard jackets generally come in two styles: the shell jacket and the insulated jacket. A jacket that's too large will allow snow to make contact with your skin during slides and falls. A jacket that's too small can hinder your movement during hairpin turns and high-speed maneuvers. According to website Shred-O-Pedia, the size of the snowboard jacket is based of a few basic measurements, including neck circumference and arm length.

Step 1

Measure the circumference of your neck with a piece of measuring tape. Wrap the measuring tape around the fullest part of your torso to determine the circumference of your chest. Extend the tape measure from the top of your shoulder to the center of your wrist bone.

Step 2

Wrap the measuring tape around your waist to determine the size. Write down the measurements because you'll need to refer to them later. Use the measuring tape to size the dimensions of a small, medium and large snowboarding jacket.

Step 3

Choose a snowboard jacket that best corresponds with your physical dimensions. Insert your arms into the jacket for a fitting test. Zip the vertical zipper and fasten the buttoned collar around your neck.

Step 4

Lower your arms to your sides to measure the sleeve length. Downgrade the size of the snowboard jacket if the sleeves extend more than 1 inch below your wrist bones. Insert one finger between the collar and your neck to ensure the jacket features a snug yet comfortable fit.

Step 5

Pull the jacket's elastic snow skirt around your waist to gauge the size. Upgrade the size of the snowboarding jacket if the snow skirt squeezes your waist comfortably. Downsize the snowboard jacket if you can fit your hand beneath the jacket's snow skirt.
