Cellulite occurs when fibrous connective cords between the muscle and the skin are affected by the growth of fat tissue. The cords pull down from the skin to the muscle, while fat pushes outward, causing the skin to appear uneven and dimpled. Many people find cellulite unattractive, and as a result they make efforts to reduce its appearance. The main treatment for the reduction of cellulite is weight loss through healthy diet and exercise. While they are not specifically prescribed for this purpose, low-carb diets, which help many people successfully lose weight and burn body fat, may also help reduce the visual impact of cellulite.

If you combine an exercise plan with a structured diet with low-carb and low-fat food selections, you are likely to experience a gradual weight loss, which will also help you reduce body fat and the appearance of cellulite.

Eating lean proteins, such as chicken, turkey, egg whites and low-fat dairy will provide you will plenty of nutrients and few empty carbs or fatty foods. Plenty of fresh fruits, vegetables and moderate servings of complex carbohydrates, such as whole grain bread and brown rice, also provide fiber-rich food selections that are low in sugar and starch. These foods help you feel full and support proper digestion without adding excess calories.

Food Restrictions

A low-carb diet eliminates starchy foods such as potatoes, refined pastas and white breads. You should also avoid any foods with refined sugars, such as baked goods, candy, fruit juices or sodas. Cutting back on these foods will help you avoid major changes in your blood sugar levels, which often produce bursts of energy followed by fatigue and food cravings. These food cravings often lead dieters to cheat on their diets and consume restricted foods.
