Ginseng is a root that has been used as a medicinal herb for hundreds of years in the East in countries like China and Korea, and is still used commonly today as an herbal supplement all over the world. Ginseng is used primarily as an immune system booster, but has also been used to increase mental alertness, control blood pressure and treat erectile dysfunction. There are many ways to prepare the ginseng root for consumption, including smoking it to help dry it out.
Step 1
Fill a pot with water, set it on the stove top and bring it to a boil.
Step 2
Rinse of the ginseng root before placing it into the boiling water.
Step 3
Place the ginseng into the boiling water, and allow it to sit for about three to seven minutes.
Step 4
Fill a separate bowl with cold water while your ginseng is boiling. As soon as the ginseng is done boiling, place it into the bowl of cold water and allow it to soak for abut 10 minutes.
Step 5
Fill your charcoal grill or similar cooking appliance with sulfur. Place the ginseng directly on the grate above the sulfur.
Step 6
Light the sulfur, cover the grill, and allow the sulfur to burn out before removing the ginseng from the grill.
Tips and Warnings
- Once you have finished smoking your ginseng, you can poke multiple holes in it using a needle and soak it in sugar water for about 24 hours to give it a sweet flavor and aroma.
