Catchers' mitts, just like almost everything else about the position of catcher, absorb a lot of wear and tear during a game and over the course of a season, their equipment can begin to wear out. The laces on a catchers' mitt can often break or come untied, so it is important for you to know how to tie a knot in the laces if they break or if you need to re-lace the entire glove and tie a knot when you are done. Many times, an overhand knot is used to tie the end of the laces.

Step 1

Pull the laces tight on the glove, as the laces will stretch and loosen over time.

Step 2

Make a loop with the end of the end of the lace, and then pull the free end through the loop.

Step 3

Pull tightly, to create a snug fit against your catchers' mitt. A proper overhand knot should hold for a long time. If you have free lace available, you can tie another overhand knot or cut off the excess with a pair of scissors.

Tips and Warnings

  • Moisten the laces with glove conditioner before tying to make the leather more flexible.
