Baking cakes using the conventional method of measuring and mixing each ingredient separately can easily be replaced by using a box cake mix. Following the instructions on the box usually ensures a cake that is delicate, moist and tasty, similar to homemade cakes, but without the fuss. Adding fruit to your box cake gives your dessert extra taste and flair. However, choosing the right fruit is important. Fresh or dried fruit works better than canned, as canned fruit needs to be drained and patted dry before it can be used.
Step 1
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
Step 2
Spray your baking pan with the nonstick cooking spray.
Step 3
Prepare the box cake in a large bowl according to the instructions on the box.
Step 4
Fill the small bowl with 1/2 cup all-purpose flour and add 1/2 cup fresh blueberries and 1/2 cup sliced strawberries.
Step 5
Toss the fruit in the flour lightly, then remove the fruit and shake off any excess flour.
Step 6
Add the flour-tossed fruit to the batter. Using a spatula, gently fold the fruit into the cake mix.
Step 7
Pour the combined batter into your baking pan.
Step 8
Bake the cake according to the directions on the cake box.
Tips and Warnings
- Tossing the fruit in flour helps suspend the fruit in the batter so it doesn't sink to the bottom of your pan. Use extra fruit to garnish your frosted cake.
- Reduce your baking temperature by 25 degrees Fahrenheit if you use a dark, glass or non-stick baking pan, as these pans absorb more heat.
