How to Bring Down Pulse Rate Naturally

For a healthy adult, the normal pulse at rest ranges from 60 to 100 a minute. However, for an athlete who participates in sports regularly, the normal pulse at rest may be close to 40 a minute. A lower pulse rate is an indication of better cardiovascular fitness. An unusually high heart rate is an indication of an underlying heart problem. However, there are some factors which may temporarily increase your heart rate. According to Mayoclinic, some of these factors are heavy physical work, exercising, emotional distress and air temperature. There are ways in which the pulse rate could be lowered naturally.

Step 1

Perform cardio exercises to increase your heart's efficiency. If you jog or walk briskly, escalate the exercise to running at least three times a week.

Step 2

Get a relaxing massage with the help of massage oils. A 2007 study performed in Britain shows that a reflexology treatment for one hour can help reduce your pulse rate.

Step 3

Wear ear plugs to bed to avoid noise induced arousal. If you have abnormal sleep behaviors, like sleep walking or teeth clenching, get proper treatment.

Step 4

Void your bladder regularly to reduce your pulse. When the bladder is full, it expands and causes the coronary blood vessels to constrict, causing the heart to beat faster. When you empty your bladder regularly, it can keep your heart rate and your pulse lower.

Tips and Warnings

  • Maintain a healthy weight and consume a healthy, fat free diet to keep your heart rate from increasing too much.
