Detox diets claim to have many health benefits, including the ability to "flush" out toxins from the kidneys and liver and the management of yeast, candida or bacterial infections. These diets are usually based around the consumption of large quantities of fruits and vegetables. While detox diets remain scientifically unsupported, they have become popular among many people including celebrities.
Detox For Women
Detox For Women was created by clinical nutritionist Natalia Rose. This detox diet is based around reducing yeast and bacterial infections. The diet is tailored to reduce candida in your body and therefore advocates cutting out acidic foods and foods that are known to increase bacterial and yeast growth such as breads, grains and honey. The recommended foods on this diet are raw vegetables, fresh juices, stevia as a sweetener, avocados, goat cheese and organic eggs. Around six small meals are consumed throughout the day.
Beauty Detox Solution
Although not expressly developed for women, this detox diet plan was written by celebrity fitness trainer and nutritionist Kimberly Snyder and is largely aimed at managing candida. While this diet is not strictly vegetarian, it does emphasize eating mainly plant based foods. There are three phases to this diet. In the first phase you introduce alkaline foods into your diet to help control candida. In the second phase you begin consuming "green smoothies," consisting of a mixture of various fruits and vegetables; you consume only alkaline foods during the mornings. Finally, in phase three, you begin to reduce your intake of animal products.
Women To Women's Quick Cleanse
The Women To Women's Quick Cleanse detox diet was developed by Marcelle Pick. According to Pick, this diet allows your upper GI tract to cleanse itself thus improving your liver function, allowing it to detox efficiently. She also claims it reduces inflammation, heals the lower gut, increases the metabolic rate, cleanses the colon and causes your body to burn fat instead of sugar. Foods to include in this diet are all types of vegetables, lean protein sources such as turkey breast and seafood, beans, legumes and complex carbohydrates such as rice and quinoa. Foods to avoid include all packaged and processed foods, alcohol, sugar, soft drinks, processed oils and fats and pork.
Inside Out Diet
Developed by Cathy Wong, the Inside Out Diet is a liver cleansing detox diet. This four-week program is tailored to help your liver function optimally so it can detox properly. During the first week of the diet, you will cut out all dairy, wheat and gluten products. Your food intake should consist of fruits, vegetables, organic poultry, egg whites and gluten-free grains. During the second week, you introduce one of the eliminated foods back into your diet each day so you can pinpoint any adverse effects you may have to any of them. Wong provides recipes for either 1,200- or 1,800-calorie days.
