Michelle Pick created the Core Diet plan. Pick is a health practitioner who specializes in the holistic treatment of women's health issues. After dealing with weight issues of her own, Pick created the Core Diet, which helped her both lose the weight and maintain the weight loss. According to Pick, the Core Diet is a safe and gradual weight loss program that results in true fat loss and not the loss of water or muscle weight. The diet program requires you to eat proportioned and balanced meals and to exercise regularly. As with any diet program, you should speak with a medical professional prior to starting the Core Diet plan.
The Imbalances
According to Pick, individuals who have problems regulating their weight commonly have biochemical imbalances. These imbalances include adrenal, hormonal, neurotransmitter, inflammation, digestive and detoxification problems. The first two weeks of this diet involves a detoxification process. This detoxification process allows you to identify your specific imbalances. In her book "The Core Balance Diet: 4 Weeks to Boost Your Metabolism and Lose Weight for Good," Pick describes how to identify your specific imbalances by monitoring your vitals and elimination of wastes during the detoxification period. The detoxification process also allows you to learn how to make changes to your diet and lifestyle. Following the detoxification process, the final two weeks of the Core Diet allow you to create a custom program that addresses your specific problem and restores your core balance.
Food Rules
The Core Diet requires you to eat balanced meals. Every meal you eat will consist of 30 percent protein, 30 percent fat and 40 percent complex carbohydrates. Additionally, the diet requires you to thoroughly chew all of the foods that you eat. Further, you should walk for at least 20 minutes prior to eating a meal, and you should eat your last meal by 7 p.m. The diet also requires you to eat fresh green leafy vegetables, limit dairy to four servings per day and eat natural, whole foods. The diet prohibits processed foods, refined sugars, flour, cereals and soft drinks.
How Much Weight Will You Lose?
This diet does not promise unrealistic and unhealthy weight loss over the four-week program. This diet does use a methodical approach to weight loss that, according to Pick, will allow you to maintain your weight loss permanently. Pick states that by following this diet you will, on average, lose one to two pounds of fat per week. The diet does not recommend losing more than one or two pounds a week because more rapid weight loss can release harmful toxins stored in your fat.
Exercise
Exercise is an essential component of the Core Diet. However, Pick states that the exercise component of this diet should not cause you stress. The diet allows you to choose an exercise that you enjoy doing and that you incorporate that exercise into your regular daily activities. According to Pick, in addition to helping you lose weight, exercise reduces stress and releases endorphins that benefit your well-being.
