If you want to avoid the crowd at the gym or if you prefer to exercise in the comfort of your own home, many high-calorie-burning workouts can be performed in your living room. Wherever you perform your workouts, strive to complete at least 150 minutes a week of moderate activity, as suggested by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. With the right equipment, you may burn more calories and lose more fat by performing several key aerobic activities without leaving your house.

500 to 700 Calories per Hour

Many indoor aerobic activities will help you shed at least 500 calories per hour. Riding a stationary bike at a moderate pace will burn over 570 calories per hour for a 180-lb. person, according to NutriStrategy.com. Performing calisthenics-style exercises, such as pushups and situps for an hour at a fast pace will help you burn over 650 calories. Use an aerobic step and perform step aerobics to a DVD for an hour to burn nearly 700 calories an hour.

Up to 800 Calories per Hour

Grab a friend and spar with boxing gloves for an hour to burn approximately 735 calories, if you weigh 180 lb., according to NutriStrategy.com. This can also be achieved without a partner; just jab, block and duck as you normally would with an opponent. Or burn the same number of calories by using a stair climber for the same amount of time.

Up to 1,000 Calories per Hour

Get your jump rope and head to a room in your house with a high ceiling to burn a high number of calories with rope jumping. NutriStrategy.com shows that jumping rope at a moderate pace for an hour burns over 800 calories, and jumping at a fast pace burns nearly 1,000 calories an hour, if you weigh 180 lb. Or use a stationary bike to cycle at a vigorous pace to burn over 850 calories an hour.

The Most Calories Burned at Home

You will need a treadmill to perform the exercise that will help you burn the most calories at home. Running at a moderate speed of 8 mph will burn over 1,100 calories per hour if you weigh 180 lb., according to NutriStrategy.com. However, if you are unable to run at this pace for an hour, you can still burn hundreds of calories by running at a slower speed. The same person can run 6 mph to burn over 800 calories an hour, or run 5 mph to burn over 650 calories.
