During a volleyball match, rules determine what male players can wear. While the uniforms worn by guys might not get the same attention as what the female players wear, the rules and uniforms vary depending on the type of match. These rules ensure that teams have a uniform look, as they govern the shorts and tops worn by all members of the team, while keeping unsafe objects off the court.
Uniforms
All players on a team must wear the same uniform. This means that the men must all have the same design and color of jerseys, shorts and socks. The men can choose numbers from 1 to 20 for international competitions, and these numbers must come in a color that contrasts the color of the jersey. They must also place the number on their shorts during the game. The numbers on the chest must have a height of at least 15 cm, with a height of 20 cm on the back of the jersey. The number on the shorts must have a height of at least 4 cm.
Shoes
Men do not have to wear the same shoes as other team members, although they must choose sports shoes with a non-marking sole made from rubber or a composite material. These shoes cannot have heels. During international competitions, players cannot wear black shoes. During some events, the referee can allow certain players to play barefoot. This, however, cannot occur during an official international competition.
Beach
During a beach competition, men can wear shorts or a bathing suit. In some events, they do not have to wear shirts, while others require them to wear a jersey of the same style and color. Players can wear a hat during any match. Players must wear a number on their jerseys unless the match allows them to play without a jersey. In these cases, they must wear a number on their shorts. All players must play without shoes or socks, unless granted permission to wear these items by a referee.
Other Rules
Players cannot wear any items that provide an advantage during the match or could cause an injury. This includes items like casts, bracelets and pins. Players can wear eyeglasses, but do so at their own risk. The referee can allow a player to change uniforms, but he must have the same style, color and numbered jersey as before the change.
