In lieu of dentures, many dentists recommend dental implants, which are teeth that are surgically implanted into the gums and bone of your jaw permanently to replace your missing teeth. The one-step tooth implant is, as you would think, a one-step process. It uses a round knife to create a hole in your gum, and then the implant anchor is screwed through your gums and into the bone. It is recommended after your procedure, that you eat a fairly soft diet for several months while your new tooth is healing.
Soft Diet
A soft diet is a diet that includes foods that are easy for you to chew and swallow. This is especially important while you're waiting for your new implant to heal into place. The diet includes a variety of foods from each of the food groups, and you should be able to meet most of your calorie, protein and nutrient needs. It is important to eat a balanced diet to promote healing.
Starches
Starches are a good source of energy and B vitamins. Soft, starchy foods are easy to chew and limit stress on your new implant to promote healing. Good choices include soft breads and rolls, cooked cereals, macaroni, rice, cold cereals softened in milk, crackers softened in soup and soft tortillas.
Fruits and Vegetables
Fruits and vegetables make a healthy choice on your diet plan, providing essential vitamins your body needs for healing, including vitamins A and C. These foods are also a good source of fiber. Soft fruit choices include applesauce, canned or cooked fruit without skins or seeds, ripe bananas or pears, soft melon and fruit choice. You should be able to tolerate most vegetables as long as they are cooked until soft and tender, without any skins or seeds. Good choices include potatoes, squash, carrots, spinach, broccoli and green beans.
Meat and Meat Alternatives
The protein in meats is also essential for healing. Meats should be cooked until soft and tender, like stewed or boiled meats. You should avoid all fried meats because they can be difficult to chew and may aggravate your implant. Good choices include stewed chicken or meat, fish, scrambled eggs, creamy peanut butter, tofu and mashed beans, such as hummus.
Dairy Foods
Dairy foods are an important source of calcium, which helps promote healing of the bone post implant. You should be able to tolerate most dairy products without difficulty. Good choices include milk, pudding, cottage cheese and yogurt.
Additional Foods
Soups with soft-cooked vegetables and grains can also be consumed following your one-step tooth implant. Gelatin, ice cream, soft cakes and cookies softened in milk can also be consumed to help satisfy you sweet tooth. Sweets, however, should not have any added nuts.
