Though the thigh of the turkey is dark meat, it can still be a healthy choice for your meals. It is more moist than white meat and can handle higher temperatures for cooking without drying out. Turkey thighs are often sold separately as either boneless and skinless or with the bones and skin still intact. A healthier choice for cooking a turkey thigh is without the skin. You can still take advantage, however, of the lower priced bone-in turkey thigh by simply removing the skin before or after cooking.

Step 1

Preheat the broiler to 500 degrees Fahrenheit, if your broiler has a temperature setting.

Step 2

Rinse the turkey thigh under cool, running water and pat it dry with a paper towel.

Step 3

Drizzle olive oil over the surface of the thigh and season it with salt and pepper, to taste.

Step 4

Season the turkey thigh with additional ingredients of your choosing, such as chopped chives, soy sauce, honey, teriyaki sauce or Bay seasoning.

Step 5

Place the turkey thigh on a broiler pan or cookie sheet with the bone side, or bottom side, up. Cook the turkey thigh for 10 minutes.

Step 6

Turn the turkey thigh over and drizzle more olive oil over it, if necessary.

Step 7

Cook the thigh for another 10 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit.

Tips and Warnings

  • Leave the skin on the turkey thigh while cooking it to keep the meat moist and remove it after cooking for a healthier alternative.
  • Wash your hands thoroughly after handling raw turkey.
