Most dieters look for any edge possible when it comes to burning body fat. While the traditional staples of healthy diet and exercise initially come to mind, it is important to realize there are other methods to aid in weight loss as well. Its not simply a healthy diet that is necessary, but certain foods you should incorporate into that diet for extra fat-burning capabilities.
Grapefruit
According to Dr. Ken Fujioka from the Nutrition and Metabolic Research Center at Scripps Clinic in San Diego, adding grapefruit to your diet can help burn fat. Participants in this 12-week study who consumed three servings of grapefruit juice daily lost 3.3 lbs., while those who ate half a grapefruit with each meal lost 3.6 lbs.
Apples
Like grapefruit, apples are a fruit that helps you burn fat. Apples are a rich source of a particular fiber, called pectin. It helps bind dietary fat to decrease your overall absorption of fat and calories. Fiber also helps you feel satiated longer, which suppresses your appetite to prevent overeating.
Lean Meats
High-quality proteins should form part of any fat-burning diet. Protein takes a while for your body to digest, which helps in two ways: it keeps you feeling fuller longer and uses up plenty of energy to burn calories during the digestion process. Be sure you choose lean cuts of beef, chicken breast, fish and turkey, instead of high-fat cuts and those meats that have been injected with preservatives.
Thermogenic Foods
Thermogenic foods are those that create heat within your body to help burn more calories. Cayenne pepper, chilies, jalapenos and red pepper are all sources of thermogenic foods. Peppers naturally contain capsaicin, which helps raise your metabolism and reduce body fat.
