Cycling is often considered to be more dangerous than driving in a four-wheeler. When you do go cycling, follow all the traffic rules, concentrate on the road and take all the safety precautions. Your cycling helmet is an important part of your cycling gear, but if the helmet does not fit properly, it is not of much use. Before you begin cycling, make sure that your helmet is the right size and that it fits properly.
Step 1
Ensure that your helmet fits snugly on your head. If the helmet is loose, and is able to tilt, insert some foam fitting pads into it. The helmet should ideally sit snugly on your head, leaving the gap of at least 1 1/2 between the edge and your eyebrows.
Step 2
Strap the left buckle and tighten it so that the buckle rests right at the center, under the chin.
Step 3
Adjust the straps by moving the sliver to form a V shape -- one strap going behind your ear and one in the front, meeting right under the ears.
Step 4
Tighten the chin strap so that the helmet is snugly placed on your head and the straps around your face also are are snug.
Step 5
Open your mouth and see if the helmet pulls down on your head. If it does not, it is possible that the helmet does not fit properly.
Step 6
Repeat the entire procedure and use side pads to ensure a better fit.
Tips and Warnings
- If the helmet is too big, consider purchasing a new, smaller one with a better fit.
