Over time and through regular use, the height and tension of a tennis net may need adjustment to keep its proper measurements. On average, the center of the tennis net should be about 3 inches above the court with as little as slack possible, especially in the middle. Most tennis nets have a crank or lever to raise and tighten the net.
Lever Type Adjustments
Step 1
Place one hand on the lever and remove the safety pin or safety straps holding the lever down. The safety pin is near the base of the lever.
Step 2
Grab the lever tightly and carefully lift it up to loosen the tension of the net while you adjust the height.
Step 3
Pull the knob located just below the base of the lever to disengage the locking mechanism.
Step 4
Hold the knob out as you adjust the height of the net by sliding the now-released mechanism up or down the tennis pole. Release the knob once you have reached the desired height to engage the locking mechanism.
Step 5
Pull the lever back down and place the safety pin or safety straps back in place.
Step 6
Repeat the same process on the opposite side, if necessary.
Winding Crank Adjustments
Step 1
Check the condition of the adjustment crank located on the tennis poles. The end adjustment cable should be lined up with the correct groove in the mechanism and should have a decent amount of the cable wrapped around it.
Step 2
Crank the mechanism forward so that the tension in the net begins to increase.
Step 3
Continue cranking the mechanism until the net has reached the desired height and tension.
Step 4
Repeat this process for the opposite side, if necessary.
