The Power Pro XTL and the Elite are Bowflex home gyms that use power rods for resistance. The Elite is a newer product, coming out on the market about a year later than the XTL. These two Bowflex home gym models have a similar design and features, but the Elite has some extras that the Power Pro XTL does not.
Design
The Bowflex Power Pro XTL and the Elite have similar designs and allow you to do many of the same exercises. They both have an adjustable weight bench with a lat tower on one end and a leg attachment on the other end. The power rods are located behind the lat tower. The bench on the Elite model has more padding than the XTL bench. The Elite includes a squat harness, squat bar and squat pulleys. Attach the squat bar to the pulleys to do squats, lunges and other leg exercises.
Specifications
The XTL model includes 210 lbs. of power rod resistance, which you can upgrade twice -- to 310 lbs. and then 410 lbs. The Bowflex Elite includes 310 lbs. of power rod resistance, which you can upgrade once, to 410 lbs.
Both Bowflex models offer the same adjustable bench positions. Set the bench in one of two flat positions, a forward or back position, or set it at a 45-degree incline. You can also remove the back of the bench and allow the seat to freely slide on the rails.
Features
The XTL and the Elite include the same handgrip accessories. The handgrips have a regular grip and a cuff. They serve three functions; they fit around your hand, ankle or wrist.
Both Bowflex home gym models include a leg press belt. Place the seat in a free sliding position and use the belt to do a leg press exercise.
The XTL and the Elite fold up to a vertical position and have transport wheels so you can easily store your machine in a closet or other room.
Considerations
The XTL and the Elite are older Bowflex models. Neither machine is available as a new product; although, you may find used machines. If you purchase a used XTL, make sure the unit includes the free repair kit. Bowflex recalled the Power Pro XTL for two defects. In the incline position, the bench can break and if you use the lat tower, it may rotate forward and fall. The repair kit addresses both of these issues.
