Figs are small, soft fruits that grow on trees in warmer climates like the Mediterranean. Some salad or dessert recipes call for "warm" figs as part of the preparation. A warm fig is jelly-like in texture and accepts extra ingredients readily. Warmed figs work well as snacks or appetizers prior to a larger meal. Prepare figs for virtually any recipe using only a standard oven.

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit.

Step 2

Cut your figs in half. Place them in a shallow baking dish with the cut side facing up.

Step 3

Smear goat cheese, sprinkle brown sugar or drizzle wine on the top of the figs to add flavor to the dish.

Step 4

Slide the dish into the preheated oven and leave it for roughly four minutes. Remove the dish from the oven and serve your figs before they cool.

Tips and Warnings

  • As an alternate warming method, place the figs under your broiler for two to three minutes.
