Foods to Eat for A-Negative Blood Type

Dr. Peter D'Adamo's Blood Type diet outlines an eating plan based on your blood type. A negative or A positive types eat the same diet, and certain foods are restricted while others are recommended. D'Adamo claims that by following his program, you will lose weight and improve your overall health. Always talk with your doctor before beginning any new weight loss routine.

Vegetables

If you have type A negative blood, filling up on plenty of vegetables is part of your individualized diet plan. Aim for 1 cup of cooked vegetables two to five times per day and 1 cup of raw vegetables three to six times per day. Leafy greens, such as kale and spinach, pumpkin, artichokes, broccoli, carrots, okra, onions, garlic, turnips, leeks, parsnips, beet leaves and alfalfa sprouts are recommended vegetables for type A negative blood.

Fruit

Your fruit selection is fairly restricted with a blood type of A negative and you should eat 3 to 5 oz. from the allowed list three to four times per day. Choose from apricots, berries, figs, plums, raisins, prunes, grapefruit, pineapple and lemons. Try to find locally grown fruit as much as possible or from your own garden, which is part of the improvement of your overall health aspect of the Blood Type Diet. You can also include 8 oz. of fruit or vegetable juice made from options on the list four to five times per day.

Meat

Red meat is not allowed if you have type A negative blood, but you are able to choose from several types of fish and are allowed to eat poultry. Turkey is better for a A negative blood, but chicken in a good option as well. Opt for organic and cage-free choices whenever possible. Fish intake is recommended if you have an A negative blood type and good choices include carp, cod, grouper, red snapper, rainbow trout, sea trout, salmon, perch, whitefish, monkfish and mackerel. Snails are an additional seafood that can be included in your A negative meal plans. Include 4 to 6 oz. one to four times per week.

Grains and Beans

There are several allowed grain foods that a type A negative person can include in meal planning. Amaranth, buckwheat and kasha are recommended cereals and should be eaten in 1-cup portions, five to nine times per week. Artichoke pasta, soba noodles, oat, rice and rye flours are additional grains for an A negative blood type and are recommended in one cup servings, two to four times per week. Allowed bean choices include, black, green pinto, aduke, azuki, lentil and black-eyed peas and you should include 1 dry cup of them three to six times per week.
