Lacrosse helmets incorporate a four-point bucking system to ensure they fit securely and comfortably at the same time. Helmets for field positions have a traditional face mask with a vertical bar and goalie helmets have a mask and a throat protector. In addition to a secure and comfortable fit, you adjust the helmet for maximum vision. Lacrosse helmets come in a variety of sizes. Obtain a helmet that fits the crown of your head properly before adjusting it for play.
Step 1
Unsnap the four-point chin strap from the right and left side of the helmet. Set the chin strap aside.
Step 2
Put the helmet on and hold each side with your hands. Rock the helmet forward and back and twist it at the same time so that it fits squarely on your head. The front of the helmet should be just above your brow for maximum protection and vision.
Step 3
Reattach the chin strap at the four snaps. Lift up on the helmet to determine the amount you will tighten or loosen the straps. Unsnap the chinstrap.
Step 4
Work each strap loose at the buckles by hand to create a half-inch-high loop above a buckle. Pull the end of each strap away from the buckle to flatten the loops for a tighter strap. Pull the straps the opposite direction to loosen them.
Step 5
Buckle the four-point chinstrap. Rock the helmet forward and back and from side to side several times, then back to center. Loosen or tighten the chinstraps in equal increments, as necessary, so the helmet fits securely and comfortably.
