Though small, blueberries are known for their abundant health benefits. They contain high amounts of fiber, vitamin C and manganese in addition to antioxidants that may help ward off cancer, cardiovascular disease and age-related conditions like Alzheimer's disease. Because blueberries aren't available year round and because some simply want an extra dose of blueberry benefits, the fruit extract is available in pill form.
Step 1
Consult your physician before taking a blueberry supplement because it's known to lower blood sugar levels. This is especially pertinent if you're diabetic or hypoglycemic.
Step 2
Take one blueberry extract capsule with your choice of liquid. One serving for an adult is 375 mg. You can take the extract on either a full or empty stomach.
Step 3
Repeat up to four times daily, or as prescribed by your health care professional. If you notice adverse side effects, such as nausea, upset stomach or diarrhea, stop taking and consult your physician.
Step 4
Use blueberry flavor extract while baking. A few drops can flavor frosting, cakes, pancakes, muffins and jams.
