Vinegar has been used as a medication, antiseptic and germ killer since 400 B.C., when Hippocrates used vinegar as a treatment. Acetic acid, the key ingredient of vinegar, is also one of the components in aspirin, and vinegar is helpful in relieving pain, inflammation and itchiness. One of the tactics in treating sunburn with vinegar is to start the treatment immediately after receiving the burn.

Step 1

Soak washcloths or paper towels with the white or apple cider vinegar.

Step 2

Lay the washcloths or paper towels over the sunburned skin until the towels are dry.

Step 3

Repeat Steps 1 and 2 as necessary, soaking the washcloths in vinegar and applying to the skin, until you feel relief from the burning sensation.
