Apple cider vinegar and honey are used in many home remedies. From improving the symptoms of arthritis to clearing up rashes to relieving heartburn, apple cider vinegar and honey are said to help them all. However, there is a profound lack of medical evidence connecting these ingredients to significant health benefits, including the ability to lose weight faster.

Weight Loss Folk Remedy

According to Deforest Clinton Jarvis, M.D., author of "Folk Medicine," apple cider vinegar and honey can cure just about anything. Jarvis supports the notion that it can help with weight loss. The suggested tonic was about 2 tbsp. of vinegar mixed with 1 cup of water and as much honey as you'd like to sweeten it. He recommended drinking this before every meal.

Purported Benefits

Apple cider vinegar and honey may help with many aspects of the weight loss process, Jarvis asserts. The combination may supress appetite, improve digestion and metabolism and reduce the amount of accumulated cholesterol in the arteries. With claims like these, it's no wonder apple cider vinegar and honey are still cited as weight loss cures.

Lack of Evidence

Unfortunately, the claims that apple cider vinegar and honey can do anything for weight loss are too good to be true. According to MayoClinic.com, there is no scientific evidence or research to show how vinegar and honey would do anything for those looking to lose weight. In the end, MayoClinic.com suggests eating a low-calorie diet and sticking to a regular fitness routine to shed pounds.

Drinking vinegar may cause problems for some people, says MayoClinic.com. In fact, the high acid content in apple cider vinegar has caused digestive upset, tooth enamel erosion and drug interactions with insulin and diuretics in some people, so it's best not to use this weight loss remedy without permission from your doctor.
