How to Remove Facial Hair by Waxing

People who have unwanted facial hair can choose from a variety of removal options. Shaving, depilatory creams and waxing are all popular options. Waxing facial hair has the benefit of leaving the face stubble-free for several weeks after treatment. Also, according to kidshealth.org, the hair that grows back after waxing is less prominent than hair that grows back after shaving.

Step 1

Heat the wax, if directed on the packaging. Make sure it is not hot enough to burn your skin. If you are using a kit that calls for cool wax, prepare it as directed.

Step 2

Use the spatula that comes with the kit to spread the wax across your upper lip or chin. Simplyhairremoval.com recommends spreading it in the direction that your hair naturally grows in, if possible.

Step 3

Place a strip of the cloth that came with your kit on top of the wax before it cools. Smooth it out by rubbing it with your fingers.

Step 4

Wait several seconds, then quickly remove the strip of cloth in one fast motion, in the direction of hair growth. According to simplyhairremoval.com, keep the strip as close to the skin as possible, and don't pull upward or away from the face.

Step 5

Remove any hairs left in the area by plucking them out with tweezers. Waxing the same area again can cause bruising and skin damage.

Tips and Warnings

  • According to kidshealth.org, the hair to be waxed should be about 1/4 inch long for best results. Purchase a waxing kit made specifically for facial hair, and follow the directions on the packaging carefully.
  • People with moles, a sunburn or other skin irritation, as well as those taking tretinoin-based acne medications, should not wax their facial hair, according to kidshealth.org.
