Most people probably think of teenagers when picturing acne, but for some, pimples first sprout up in those first few weeks of life. Miliaria, infant or baby acne, presents on the face -- usually on the cheeks, chin and forehead. Miliaria can also appear on any large area of the body. Baby acne looks similar to adult acne, with small, raised, red bumps that often have a white or yellow center. Hormonal changes that occurred during the mother's pregnancy cause this harmless condition, which happens most often in boys, according to MayoClinic.com. With normal washing, miliaria usually clears up on its own in a matter of weeks.
Step 1

Step 2
Pat dry the skin with a clean, soft washcloth.
Step 3
Wash your baby's face with a mild moisturizing facial soap and warm water every other day.
Step 4
Rinse with warm water and pat dry.
Tips and Warnings
- Miliaria is different from milia -- the tiny white bumps on the nose, chin or cheeks, which are also harmless and clear up on their own. Some medications can also cause baby acne. If you or your baby are taking any medications, talk to your doctor about possible side effects. It's normal for the acne to look darker and more pronounced when your baby is upset and crying.
- Lotions and creams may irritate the skin. Do not squeeze, poke or rub the pimples. Talk to the doctor if the acne worsens or does not go away within three months.
