How to Get Rid of Stubborn Cellulite

Cellulite is a substance that appears on the body and gives the skin a cottage cheese-like appearance. Although it does not propose any risks to your physical health, it can be unsightly and cause you to feel self conscious when it develops. Since cellulite is composed of fat, the way to get rid of stubborn cellulite is to take the same approach you would to lose weight.

Step 1

Cut back on your intake of foods that can lead to weight gain and promote the formation of cellulite. Cakes, cookies, doughnuts, pastries, chips, processed meats, deep-fried foods and fast food are all examples. Eat foods high in vitamin C, essential fats and lean protein. These foods reduce subcutaneous water and promote collagen, which is a substance needed for connective tissue strength.

Step 2

Forgo drinks high in caffeine and sugar, such as soda, coffee, lattes, sweetened teas and milkshakes. Drink water as your main beverage, because it can help reduce fluid retention and help keep you hydrated.

Step 3

Participate in weight training that targets your legs and butt, which are the main problem areas for cellulite. Squats, step-ups, lunges, side leg lifts, hamstring curls and calf raises are helpful exercises. Aim for three to four sets of each, and do 10 to 12 reps with moderate to heavy weights. Work out three times a week on alternating days. Building muscle can increase your metabolism and keep your skin more taut.

Step 4

Include cardiovascular exercise in your routine to burn fat cells. Swimming, rowing, spinning, running, elliptical training and walking are all examples. Choose something that you enjoy doing, and work out for 45 to 60 minutes three days a week.

Step 5

Make an appointment with an endermologist to get your skin massaged. Endermologie is an FDA-approved treatment for short-term cellulite reduction. The skin gets massaged with two rollers, the connective tissue underneath gets stretched, and the cellulite disappears. Plan on treatments one to two times a week, up to 14 to 28 treatments, to see favorable results.

Tips and Warnings

  • In the marketplace, you'll find a plenitude of creams and miracle formulas specifically designed for cellulite removal. Unfortunately, they are unproven and do little to treat cellulite.
