Having erection problems does not immediately mean you need to be taking a male sexual enhancement drug such as Viagra. Although that medication can help a great deal and has helped many men, you might want to explore your sexual problems before jumping to conclusions. Erectile dysfunction (ED) or impotence can be caused by a variety of reasons. Examine the reasons for your problems before settling on Viagra.

Step 1

Remember that Viagra is a cure for erectile dysfunction, which is a symptom. Do not simply try to buy the medication online without checking out your underlying problem with a doctor first.

Step 2

Determine if you have the desire to have sex with your partner. If the problem is psychological, Viagra may not work. Viagra helps in the bodily process that produces an erection if you are aroused. If your problem is not physical, a therapist or counselor can talk about personal issues to help you and your partner have a satisfactory sex life.

Step 3

Consider the times you can have sexual intercourse when you desire it. The inability to maintain an erection for sex at least 25 percent of the time may indicate ED, the Mayo Clinic says. Viagra might be right for you because it can correct physical difficulties in achieving erection.

Step 4

Visit your doctor for a thorough physical examination. Your doctor can rule out any underlying problems that could be causing erection difficulties, including high blood pressure or diabetes, according to the American Academy of Family Physicians.

Step 5

Try Viagra if your physician recommends it. The risk of erectile dysfunction increases as men age. Injury, surgery or drug side effects may also be a cause, interfering with blood flow to the penis. Viagra has the ability to mimic the body’s sensory and mental stimulation to allow more blood flow into the penis when there is sexual arousal to create an erection.
