How to Get Hair Glue Out

Glue-in hair extensions can give you a headful of luxurious hair. Removing the extensions after they have spent their allotted time on your head can be difficult when the glue decides to remain in your hair. Since it's not always convenient to go to a salon to have a professional remove the extensions and the glue, you can remove the glue at home.

Step 1

Purchase a high-grade glue remover from a beauty supply store. This will break down the glue and separate it from your strands. Apply remover to the areas of your hair that have glue on them and let sit for a few minutes. Comb out the glue with a fine-toothed comb, being careful not to tug on any knots in your hair.

Step 2

Apply baby oil to the glue and work through with your hands to break up the glue. Gently comb the loosened glue out of your hair with a fine-toothed comb. This process is time-consuming and can be aggravating, but exercising patience will pay off in the end.

Step 3

Use acetone-based nail polish remover to dissolve hair glue. Section off your hair. Using a small amount of nail polish remover on a cotton ball, soak the glue one section at a time. Comb out glue residue with a fine-toothed comb and shampoo your hair. Acetone can be harsh on hair, so use small amounts of nail polish remover.

Step 4

Apply a half-dollar-sized amount of conditioner to the hair and leave it on for at least 20 minutes. Brush the glue out of your hair once it has been loosened. This process will need to be repeated several times and takes patience, but it is one of the healthiest and safest ways to remove hair glue.
