The epidermis, or top layer of our skin, has small pores that are connected the deep tissue sweat glands and sebaceous glands. It is these pores that make your skin semi permeable, releasing sweat and other toxins from inside the body. These pores also release sebum -- the natural oils of the body that help keep the skin hydrated, soft and elastic. The constant exposure of the skin to dust, dirt and pollutants could clog the pores. Another cause of clogging is the accumulation of dead skin cells. Acne is caused by clogged pores. Often, the sebum released from the pores gets oxidized, causing small black dots, known as blackheads, to appear.
Step 1
Use a pore refining cleanser or a medicated soap and wash your face with lukewarm water several times a day. This will get rid of excess sebum and dirt, decreasing the probability of forming unsightly blackheads on your face. Ridding your face of dirt will also help preventing the pores from getting clogged and infected.
Step 2
Slough off dead facial skin by using exfoliates and gentle scrubs. Use a homemade scrub, made of oats and milk, or choose from various cosmetic preparations available commercially. Use a scrub that is suitable for your skin type.
Step 3
Always remove makeup at the end of each day. Sleeping with your makeup on could cause clogging of the pores and subsequently lead to infection or acne. Use a washcloth or a piece of cotton soaked in lukewarm water to clear the makeup from the skin.
Step 4
Soak a piece of cotton in lemon juice and apply it all over the facial skin. Leave the lemon juice for about 5 minutes and clean it off with lukewarm water. Mix some rosewater in the lemon juice, if you have dry skin. Since both lemon juice and rosewater have astringent properties, they can help unclog the pores.
Step 5
Clean your face with a mild cleanser and apply a whisked egg white on it using a cotton pad. This will help reduce the size of the pores, preventing occurrence of blackheads.
