Pain that develops in your upper right abdomen after you eat might be frightening, but its most likely cause is a condition that you can manage or treat. Make an appointment with your doctor to talk about your symptoms and a possible clinical diagnosis. If the pain in your abdomen is severe to the point where you cannot function normally, go to the emergency room. You might have a more serious condition. Common causes of pain your upper right abdomen after eating or dinking juice are fructose malabsorption, food allergy, an ulcer or allergic asthma.

Fructose Malabsorption

Fructose is the most common sugar used in foods, table sugar and beverages. It is naturally occurring in fruits and can cause cramping, pain in your abdomen, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting after eating foods that contain fructose or drinking juice. Fructose malabsorption occurs when your small intestine cannot break down the sugar entirely, according to MayoClinic.com. It's a different condition than hereditary fructose intolerance, which can lead to liver damage, weight loss and death if not treated. Treatment for fructose malabsorption is avoidance of foods and beverages that contain the sugar.

Food Allergies

It's common for food allergies to cause pain in your upper abdomen shortly after eating because your digestive system is first to interact with the food. The University of Maryland Medical Center advises that common foods that trigger food allergies include wheat, eggs, fish, soy, peanuts, tree nuts and milk. Some fruits and vegetables, such as pineapples, melons, strawberries and tomatoes, might also cause an allergic reaction. This is a serious medical condition that can lead to shortness of breath, nasal congestion and skin rashes.

Allergic Asthma

It is common for inflammation in your lungs to cause pain in your abdomen. Most pain that results from constricted airways happens throughout the chest and into the upper portion of the abdomen. Allergic asthma is the result of eating or drinking juice or other substance to which your body is hypersensitive. During allergic asthma, your airways swell, cutting off your ability to breathe normally and may cause wheezing, chest discomfort and lightheadedness.

Ulcer

Ulcers are open sores in the lining of your digestive system. When you eat or drink certain foods or beverages, such as highly acidic or spicy foods, you may experience increased pain. Tomato juice, pineapple juice, lemon juice and orange juice are all high in acidity and may trigger pain in your upper right abdomen.
