In keeping with the tradition of not letting any part of on animal go to waste, pig's feet join the other odd parts of a pig, including the tail, snout, skin and head, that can be eaten rather than discarded. Pig's feet, which usually include the ankle bone, can be prepared in a number of ways to make them edible. You can pickle, smoke, stew, pouch, steam and barbecue them. Grab a bib and a handful of napkins before settling down to enjoy the art of eating pig's feet.
Step 1
Pick up the pig's foot with your fingers, much like you would pick up a chicken leg.
Step 2
Bite into the side of the foot with your teeth. Pick the meatiest part of the foot to bite into.
Step 3
Tear the meat away from the bones with your fingers when you can't reach the bits of meat that sit close to the bones and joints with your teeth.
Step 4
Suck the remaining meat and flavor from the bones, leaving the bones and joints clean, before discarding the foot and moving onto a new piece.
Tips and Warnings
- Cut the meat away from pig's feet with a small paring knife if you have trouble biting into the meat.
