If you like to have beer on the weekends, with your dinner or when you are out with your friends you could be putting unnecessary calories into your body and accumulating excess fat. According to ShapeFit, some beer has over 200 calories per 12-oz. serving. If you want to avoid gaining excess weight and getting a beer gut, you need to be mindful of how much you drink while also maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Step 1
Reduce the amount of beer you drink, or stop drinking beer. Try to cut your beer consumption in half each day. If you normally drink six beers on a Saturday, try to only drink three.
Step 2
Replace high-calorie beers with a low-calorie option. If you are going to continue drinking beer, you can save some calories by choosing a light beer or a reduced calorie version. For example, according to ShapeFit, Budweiser has 145 calories per serving and Bud Light has 110 calories.
Step 3
Replace your beers with a different type of alcoholic drink. Drinks made from liquor, such as rum and vodka, have fewer calories and carbohydrates than beer. Avoid mixing liquor with sugary drinks such as soda and instead ask for sugar free juice or diet soda.
Step 4
Stay active with daily aerobic exercise. Activities such as running, swimming, bicycling and kickboxing engage your whole body and burn calories for fat loss. Work for at least 30 minutes each day at a moderately fast pace.
Step 5
Avoid snacking while you drink. Drinking lowers your inhibitions and can lead to binge snacking. If you do eat while you drink, choose healthier snacks that come from fruits and vegetables. Put your desired portion onto a plate instead of eating from the package, which can lead to overeating.
