Excessive belly fat can be harmful to your health. It increases your risk of diabetes, stroke, cardiovascular disease and certain cancers. While diet is a key element in losing belly fat, so is exercise. If you belong to a gym, a wide variety of workouts can help burn off a lot of belly fat.
Cycling
Cycling can help tone your abdominal muscles and burn calories at the same time. Bicycles come in many forms, and most gyms contain a variety. Recumbent and upright bikes are the most common. Some gyms may have fan bikes that work your upper and lower body simultaneously. Also, many gyms offer classes for a high-intensity cycling workout.
Elliptical Training
Elliptical training provides a full-body cardiovascular workout. The use of your arms and legs, moving back and forth in a rhythmic motion, also works your core muscles as well. Be sure to use the elliptical machines that work your upper body, not just your lower body. This will increase your calorie burning ability and help you shed belly fat.
Stair Climbing
Stair climbing also works your core muscles and promotes fat burn. To execute the stair climbing workout, you must hold onto the rail with both hands, stand tall and continuously step as the machine rotates in a circular motion. Lifting your lower body repeatedly will target your lower abs and elevate your heart rate for a solid cardio workout.
Treadmill
The treadmill is a staple at most gyms, and burns a lot of belly fat as you walk and jog on it. Treadmills may seem boring, but there are ways to change up the workout and its intensity. You can elevate the ramp to create an uphill climb as you walk or jog. You can also interval-train by walking for a couple of minutes, then sprinting for a couple of minutes.
Resistance Training
Most gyms have weight equipment to work all of your major muscle groups. Machines such as the lateral pull-down, leg press, chest press, torso twist, crunch machine, adductor/abductor machine, triceps dip and biceps curl all work to strengthen and tone your body. Lean muscle mass is important for belly fat loss, because it increases your resting metabolism. Resistance training is the most effective way to burn calories even when you are not working out.
