With classes, studying and hanging out with friends, time for exercise becomes limited for students. Skipping your workout leaves you with less energy to tackle your college responsibilities. You also increase the chances of putting on the infamous "freshman 15" weight gain. But you can find exercise methods that fit your class, study and social schedule.

Longer Class Commutes

Walking and riding your bike around campus burns calories and doubles as a workout if you do it long enough. Instead of finding all the shortcuts around campus, take the long way to class so you walk or bike longer. Fill gaps in your schedule with a walk or jog around campus. Old campus buildings typically have stairs that are ideal for running up and down for an easy workout. If you tape your classes, listen to the recordings as you wander around campus to multitask with exercise and studying. If you live off campus, save gas money and get in your workout by walking or riding your bike to campus.

Clubs

Colleges often have intramural sports teams that are more recreational in nature. If you enjoy the competitive nature of team sports but don't have the time or qualifications for the college team, seek out your campus intramural league. You get regular exercise with the team and meet new friends that you wouldn't otherwise come across on campus. If your college doesn't offer intramural sports, check with the city parks and recreation department for leagues.

Classes

Add a fitness class to your schedule for regular exercise. Check the semester schedule when you register for classes. The campus fitness center may also have classes you can join at any time. If you can't find an organized class, get a group of fellow students to meet on a regular basis at the campus fitness center or outside for a run or other forms of exercise.

Dorm Room Workouts

A workout in your dorm room lets you squeeze in exercise between studying or other convenient times. Buy inexpensive fitness equipment like hand weights, resistance bands or an exercise ball to facilitate the exercise. If you have a bike that you use around campus, buy an indoor bike trainer to turn it into an exercise bike. The trainer lifts your back wheel off the floor so you are able to pedal without going anywhere. An exercise video is another tool to aid your dorm room exercise.
