Tennis commonly is referred to as an individual sport at the professional ranks, but there are tennis teams at other levels of tennis, including high school and college. The tennis team is made up of various players, led by a coach or manager and a team captain. The tennis captain isn't always the best player, but is the best leader. Being the best tennis captain carries a lot of responsibility and can lead your team to victory.

Step 1

Work closely with the team coach or manager to make important team decisions. Regularly communicate with your coach during meetings or practice sessions and organize routine team meetings. With the help from the coach and manager, some tennis captains also might be responsible for choosing teammates for an upcoming tennis match.

Step 2

Lead by example during every practice or training session. A good tennis captain motivates teammates through hard work, focus and dedication, but good tennis captains also motivate through open communication. As a result, the team and every player improve performance. Another duty of a good tennis captain includes organizing team events to improve the teamwork and continuity of the team.

Step 3

Create playing schedules and team rosters to maximize your team's talents and skills. This includes managing playing time to maximize an upcoming match. For example, a good captain will switch the lineup according to the other team's strengths. After posting the playing schedules, a good captain accepts feedback and constructive criticism about the performance of the team.
