Getting a zit the night before a big event --- school photo day, for example --- can stress you out. Depending on your skin type and the size of the pimple, you might not be able to completely get rid of it in just one night. Fortunately, there are several things you can do to reduce the size and redness of a zit overnight.
Step 1
Wash your face before going to bed. Gently massage your face with your fingertips and avoid putting too much pressure on your zit. Use an oil-free cleanser and follow with an oil-free moisturizing cream if you have dry or combination skin.
Step 2
Do not try to pop or squeeze the zit. This can make it worse or cause scarring on the skin. Your hands also carry bacteria and oil, which can lead to more zits.
Step 3
Use an acne spot treatment overnight. Use a cream containing salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide to dry out the zit. Put enough on the zit to cover it and the area around it.
Step 4
Wash your face again in the morning to remove the spot treatment and any oil that accumulated overnight. Pat your face dry and apply oil-free moisturizer.
Step 5
Cover any remaining redness with makeup, if desired. Use an oil-free, noncomedogenic foundation that matches your skin tone. Noncomedogenic makeup does not clog pores and is healthier than other makeup.
