Tingling in Fingers After Exercise

Tingling in your fingers after exercising is not a normal condition and could be a sign of something serious -- or it may just be a simple condition causing your discomfort, such as lack of blood flow. There are many possible causes for this sensation, and tingly fingers might not even have to do with your hands. If it seems ongoing, however, you should contact your doctor.

Circulatory

A lack of blood flow to your fingers is a common reason for a tingling sensation. You may have been gripping the weights too hard or applying too much pressure to your fingers. It could also be the result of exposing your hands to cold temperatures immediately after working out. A tingling sensation is also a symptom of peripheral artery disease, the narrowing of arteries due to the buildup of cholesterol. You may even have a rare condition called Raynaud's Phenomenon, which is a disorder that causes a narrowing of the blood vessels in the fingers and can lead to a tingling sensation.

Orthopedic

Tingling fingers after exercise can also be caused by orthopedic conditions. You may have a fractured or broken bone that is irritating a nerve or causing nerve damage. Carpal tunnel syndrome is also a common ailment that can lead to a tingly feeling in the fingers that may have been aggravated through exercise. Tingly fingers is also a symptom of other issues, like a neck injury, herniated disk or cervical spondylosis. And it can be the result of nerve entrapment or compression of the ulnar nerve in the arm.

Neurological

Your tingly fingers could also be the result of neurological conditions. Someone who suffers from alcoholism will sometimes experience a tingling sensation. If you are diabetic, it could be a sign of high blood sugar levels. This condition is also associated with lead poisoning and other medical conditions like hypothyroidism, multiple sclerosis, neuroma of the finger, peripheral neuropathy, spinal cord injury, a tumor, or even stroke.

Vitamin Deficiency

A tingling in your fingers after exercising, or any other time, could be a sign that you are low in vitamin B. You may need more B1 or Thiamine and more B12 or Cyanocobalamin. Vegetarians and people with poor diets often lack these vitamins.
